The SuperFish 3D filter media design gives a highly effective biological surface area, over 1800m² per litre, maintaining a high water flow. This high water flow ensures a sufficient oxygen for the bacteria in the filter media. Oxygen is the engine for nitrification, the bilogical oxidation of ammonia and nitrite only takes place if sufficient oxygen is present.
